Open House London is a great event - London opens its doors to anyone and you can see places like the Swiss Re Tower or Trellik Tower in Notting Hill. The best thing about it is that it's free!
Keeping some traditions alive always helps, such as Glühwein around Christmas and Zwiebelkuchen... I think food is the best reminder of your roots.
