Gloria Zein 'I Can't Stop the Dancing Chicken'

Thursday 21st June, 2012 to Tuesday 30th April, 2013

Location: Goethe-Institut London - Click for map

German artist Gloria Zein has been commissioned to develop works in honour of the reopening and 50th anniversary of the Goethe-Institut London.

Zein’s installation reflects the transdisciplinary nature of her art, with works that allude to the multifaceted role of the institute in London, Great Britain and North-West Europe and the dedication of its staff, operating within a dynamic network of artistic fields.

Zein responds to the architecture of the newly restored building with references to its historical significance and to the cultural objectives of the Goethe-Institut. Sculptures have been installed both outside the building and in working areas, and Zein has developed a striking colour concept for the main stairwell.

This is a new permanent exhibition at the Goethe-Institut London. It forms part of the International Architecture and Design Showcase, which runs from 21 June to 23 September in London; a global gathering of cultural projects investigating architecture and design from across the world.

The artist Gloria Zein will be in conversation with Hayward Gallery chief curator Stephanie Rosenthal on 3 July at 7pm at the Goethe-Institut. Free, but booking essential.
