Fairytales Competition entries

  • Secondary: Aschenputtel - Emily Glover and Matty Matthews, Comberton Village College (overall winners)
  • Higher Education: Abiputtel - Joanna Moore, Nottingham University

From animations and videos to poems and plays, young people from across the UK created modern versions of traditional German fairytales for the Think German Fairytales Competition.

The task

Entrants were asked to create a modern version of a classic German fairytale, and could choose from Hänsel & Gretel, Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten and Aschenputtel. Entries could be submitted in German, English, or a mixture of both languages, as well as in a variety of formats (video / animation, audio, photo story, essay or poem), and were judged in the categories Primary, Secondary and Higher Education.

Prizes and thanks

Overall competition winners, Emily Glover and Matty Matthews from Comberton Village College were the proud recipients of tickets to see Hänsel und Gretel at the prestigious Glyndebourne opera festival, with other winners receiving tickets to see a screening of Hänsel und Gretel in Somerset House, London, as well as exciting German books and online vouchers for the German Deli, London.

The Think German Committee would especially like to thank everyone who entered the competition!
